Overview

Once cladding is complete outside and drywall has been installed and finished inside, students set to work on interior and exterior finishes. This lengthy last lap of the semester involves installation of exterior window and door trim, all exterior painting, installation of flooring, baseboards, interior doors, interior door and window trim, and all interior painting. Kitchen cabinetry and islands must be placed and secured, and any special details such as custom storage, custom sliding partitions or shutters, light fixtures, and exterior railings must be completed, installed, and painted if necessary. Compared to framing, the finishing stage of construction can feel like slow progress; however, perfecting a detail or bringing a phase or room to full completion can be supremely satisfying work.
